To avoid such power problems, it is important to provide adequate protection against surges and noise. This is usually done in two steps; protection at the point-of-entry / service entrance removes the bulk of the surge (primary protection) whilst filtering and surge protection close to the equipment reduces surge further and filters out electrical noise (secondary protection).
The most effective way of providing primary protection is with the use of surge diverters such as the PW-DINVSD1R, SPD120i, SPD3Ni and SPD3Gi. Mounted at the main switchboard, these surge diverters dissipate any damaging surges safely to the mains earth, preventing damage to switchboards, wiring and more importantly, your valuable equipment. The remaining surge remnants and noise can be controlled with the use of surge power filters close to the equipment (secondary protection). These may take the form of simple 'plug-in' filters (POD, POD+ and SSFi), or 'hard-wired' filters (CSFi and DSFi) for higher currents.
The SPD120i is designed to protect single-phase power systems against surges and spikes caused by lightning strikes and other electrical sources. The unit is intended for point-of-entry or main-board protection in medium to high exposed locations. Units can be easily configured for L-N or L-E protection for installations adjacent or remote from the M.E.N. link, which means it can provide protection for commercial buildings to rural sites.
Units are housed in a genuine DIN43880 profile enclosure and feature front panel blue LED indicators to show protection and MOV status with the added convenience of a dry-contact alarm to allow remote status monitoring.
The SPD3Ni is designed to protect 3-phase power systems against damage from surges and spikes caused by lightning and other electrical sources. The unit is intended for point-of-entry or sub-board protection in low to medium exposed locations close to the M.E.N. point. The SPD3Ni provides both differential and common-mode protection with a maximum surge current rating of 40kA/Phase and are connected in parallel with the power circuit via separate protection HRC fuses.

The SPD3Gi is designed to protect 3-phase power systems against damage from surges and spikes caused by lightning and other electrical sources. The unit is intended for point-of-entry or sub-board protection in low to medium exposed locations remote from the M.E.N. point. The SPD3Gi provides common-mode protection with a maximum surge current rating of 40kA/Phase and are connected in parallel with the power circuit via separate protection HRC fuses.
